About Me
I’m Dan Simmons (@simmons_dan), a 22-year-old software engineer from Atlanta, GA presently finishing up my last semester at Georgia Tech. Upon graduating with a degree in Computer Science and Finance, I plan on returning to pursue an M.S. CS with a specialization in Quantitative and Computational Finance (starting to understand the nerd aspect of the name?) and intend on pursuing a career in algorithmic trading with the goal of one day running my own hedge fund.
To date, I’ve completed two professional summer internships at Fortune 100 companies, posses Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and Security+ certifications, and posses a government security clearance. Prior to graduating, I will have had an opportunity to complete a third and final software engineering internship with a well-known personal finance company in creating some really cool, exciting new technology.
All of the above aside, technology and finance are my primary passions in life (particularly their intersections!). In fact, the first thing I did on the day of my 18th birthday was open a brokerage account and haven’t looked back since! I nerd-out about 401(K)’s, IRAs, credit scores, saving, frugality, deals, coupons, etc… if it has anything to do with or is related to money, growing wealth, or improving one’s lifestyle, I’m undoubtedly obsessed about its optimization!
Why WealthNerd?
I’m glad you asked! Being obsessed with all things personal finance myself, I originally created WealthNerd after arriving at the shocking realization that very few of my peers knew much about the subject! Part of this phenomenon can be attributed to the lack of emphasis on personal finance in our present-day education system, but I digress!
After very frequently finding myself sharing random tidbits of financial knowledge here and there with friends and co-workers, I suddenly realized that aggregating these small pieces of information into one common "global" repository could prove to be an extremely useful resource! What’s more, the community could, for example, contribute further information, weigh-in with opinions, or provide additional insight.
Put simply, my goal in starting this blog is to share my own experiences, both successes and failures, with the hope that together we can grow, learn, and undoubtedly prosper! On the same token, I don’t claim to know it all! In fact, far from it! I’m always learning, and I intend to continually share observations I make and knowledge I gain with my readers!
Suffice it to say, I’m fired up about this opportunity to learn, grow, and share experiences with other like-minded, financially-conscious individuals. My hope is that you are too! I’d like for this website to be an avenue for collaboration and creativity, so please, don’t ever hesistate to voice your opinion, contribute, or contact me.
